LEAP is one of the only volunteer programs I know of that is truly emancipatory for all its participants—students and instructors. I was honored to take part.”
– Boian, Summer 2011
“While I strongly believed in and supported the work of LEAP before, after experiencing the program first hand I really want to continue to work with and support the program even more so. I believe the LEAP program is different than any other program/organization because I feel that it really works in two ways: while it impacts and affects the students immensely, it really impacts the volunteers and raises awareness about the plight of Palestinian refugees, which is so crucial.”-Dima, Summer 2012
“I have worked with a number of organizations and have been able to evaluate how my skills, time, money and efforts can be used effectively. LEAP’s Project SHINE is by far the most beneficial and effective program that I have been a part of.. After working with the students and staff in Rashidieh Camp and hearing their praises for the program, it is evident that the work of SHINE is helping the community. I believe in SHINE’s mission and goals and would like to continue dedicating my energy to this project. In addition, few programs shed light on the situation of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. After witnessing the living, health, education, economic, and working conditions of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, I want to continue my work in raising awareness about their lives in Lebanon. I want to participate in project SHINE again in order to continue learning about the lives of Palestinians in Lebanon and further my understanding about their circumstances. I believe that a second summer would provide more chances for further understanding and learning.”
